Lubrication Filtration
The Importance of Lubrication Filtration
Oil gives life to the engine and if it is not used, the engine cannot run.
Oil Filters purify the engine's "lifeblood", the oil, from contaminants that cause dirt and wear. If Oil Filters cannot do their job well, engine life may be shortened. The lubrication system not only keeps the internal parts of the engine moving by keeping the different parts separate, it also serves other important functions:
- Reduce heat
- Sealing between the cylinder wall and piston rings
- Cleaning interior surfaces
- Transferring dirt to the filter
- There are 3 types of oil filtration techniques commonly used in today's engines;
- Full Flow Filtration – Here what comes out of the oil pump is filtered before it enters the engine.
- Bypass Filtration – Here, a portion of the oil flow is filtered more precisely than in the full-flow system and sent back to the oil pan.
- Combined Filtration – Here both full flow and bypass systems are used in the filter.
